Silk Dress Pattern and Sample Development
LuxoSilk develops the silhouette and fit from your tech pack or reference garment. Our independently operated factory in China cuts and sews the dresses. You assess the sample’s fabric, pattern and construction on the body before approving production.
Dress Shapes, Lengths and Details
Length, cut direction and room through the bust, waist and hips shape the fit. Lining, closures and straps can be specified for each design.
Dress Silhouette
Slip, shirt and wrap styles with custom neckline, sleeves and waist shape, developed from your design or reference garment.
Finished Length
Custom lengths for each size, measured from a defined point to the hem. Short, midi and long are descriptions, not finished measurements.
Cut Direction
Bias or straight cutting, with drape and directional prints considered together before the pattern is finalized.
Fit and Ease
Custom bust, waist and hip dimensions for a closer or looser fit in each area.
Lining and Coverage
Lining where your design needs it, with the outer silk color, lining material and coverage assessed together on the garment sample.
Closure and Straps
Openings and closures positioned for the design. Slip styles can have fixed or adjustable straps, with length coordinated with the neckline.

Bias Cut, Straight Cut and Dress Fit
Bias and straight cuts are available, each affecting how woven silk falls and moves. Your pattern brief specifies the cut; fitting the sample in that fabric refines the measurements and room to move.
- Bias Cutting
Bias cutting places the pattern diagonally across the fabric grain. The diagonal cut allows extra give; it does not indicate elastane content. - Straight Cutting
The pattern follows the specified fabric grain. Pattern dimensions, shaping and room to move create the silhouette, which you confirm on the sample. - Finished Measurements
Finished bust, waist and hip measurements include room to move, with units and measurement points recorded separately from body measurements. - Bias-Cut Hem
For bias styles, the fabric settles before the hem is checked. Agree the settling procedure, then assess finished length and levelness.
Silk Fabrics, Lining and Finishing Details
Dress fabrics include 16, 19 and 22 momme silk, including satin. Weight, color and lining change the look and feel of the same dress.
- Weight and Surface
Momme measures fabric weight. Different weights can be compared in the chosen fabric, but weight alone cannot tell you how sheer a dress will be or how it will fit. - Lining Material and Coverage
Lining material, color and coverage follow your design. Its composition is specified separately from the outer silk, with both layers assessed for comfortable movement. - Neckline and Edges
Binding or rolled hems finish the edges marked in your design. - Zippers and Adjusters
Hidden zippers and adjustable straps, positioned to suit the design where required.
Colors, Prints, Embroidery and Labels
Colors, prints, embroidery and brand details can be customized. Your artwork defines motif size and position. Seams, wrap fronts and cut direction can change the result, so review the pattern pieces before deciding placement.
- Custom Colors
Colors start with your standard or physical swatch. Review the approved shade on the chosen silk, beside visible lining or trim. - Print Direction
Repeat or placement prints, with the artwork’s top and direction marked. Motif direction needs attention on bias-cut pieces, with matching across seams where required. - Embroidery Position
Embroidery sized to your artwork and positioned from a seam or edge. Its effect on lightweight silk and comfort against the skin need sample review. - Labels and Packaging
Brand, care and size labels in the agreed positions. Folding and packaging suit the dress length, straps and surface decoration.
Neckline, Waist and Hem Fit
Assess the sample’s neckline, waist and skirt while standing, sitting and walking. Record any changes before approval.
Neckline and Upper Body
Upper-body fit includes neckline position, finished edges, armhole room and shoulder or strap placement. Review the intended strap adjustment range; it cannot make up for an incorrect body length.

Review waist position and ease on the sample. The silk’s drape affects how the skirt falls from the waist when sitting or moving.

Skirt and Hem
Walking and sitting reveal movement and coverage. Check the hem around the body with the intended lining and footwear height, after the agreed fabric-settling procedure.

Silk Dress Sewing and Quality Checks
Production follows the approved pattern, measurements and sample. We inspect dimensions, drape, seams, edge finishing and specified closures or straps. Final checks cover print or embroidery placement, any lining, labels, packaging and order quantities. Fabric or garment testing requirements are agreed before production.
Silk Weight, Finish and Responsible Production
The fabric’s weight and drape are part of how a silk dress takes shape.
16, 19 or 22 Momme Silk
Dress fabrics include 16, 19 and 22 momme silk, including satin. Weave and weight are agreed before sampling. Momme measures fabric weight; a swatch shows drape and feel. Heavier silk alone does not mean a better fit or finish.

6A Silk and “Slip”
6A describes silk grade. “Slip”, when used to describe fabric, needs a specific reference for comparison. Weave, weight and finish shape the feel, so a swatch tells more than the label alone.

OEKO-TEX and Sustainability
LuxoSilk works to reduce cutting waste and sort offcuts by material. OEKO-TEX STANDARD 100 covers testing for harmful substances within the certificate’s scope. Certification for a project depends on the selected materials and valid documents.
